Re: Summer Transfer window rumours/discussion thread.
Fair point, Sven. Swings and roundabouts, though. Transfer fees now = signing on fees at contract end.

I don't know what the answer is. Manchester United may well transfer him to Italy.... But still have to pay half his salary. Or he can just sit back and stink out the place. Not truly bothered about the latter, as it's Manchester United, but the money involved is truly ridiculous. For a just-above average player.

Modern football is rubbish.

Re: Summer Transfer window rumours/discussion thread.
The numbers are a bit misleading
He was a player worth say £30m and they got him for nothing so his agent quite rightly negotiated most of that ‘transfer fee’ to go into Sanchez’s pocket. While doing a very sweet cut for himself.
Obviously it’s been a disaster as he has been shit and it means that players like Pogba , DeGea and any potential recruit sees his ‘salary’ as something to aim for.

Apart from not signing him what they needed to do was make it clear his salary was say £250k a week and the rest was some massive signing on fee. Which they happened to be paying him with his salary.

What is really obscene is that FFP allows some clubs to pay these sort of amounts and still comply while other clubs have a limit that is a fraction of that.

Re: Summer Transfer window rumours/discussion thread.
NOT WHUFC related.... But:

The Daily Mail (I know!) reporting that Alexis Sanchez potentially costs Manchester United roughly £560,000 a week. Over £21k pw goes to his agent! Hence they can't shift him, and why would his agent even bother.

Just 5 goals in 45 games for the Mancs. And he's 30. With 3.5 yrs on his contract.

The only upside is, I suppose, his tax can fund a few hospitals.

In the wider football world, he must be the worst signing ever?

Nemanja Radoja 26 year old Serbian international just released by Celta in Spain is an option. Apparently he hasn´t played for over a year because he would not renew his contract

HE'S NOT, WE'RE AT OUR LIMIT FOR NON-HOMEGROWN PLAYERS

"Touré aspired to be a striker during his youth[4] and has played centre back, including for Barcelona in the 2009 UEFA Champions League Final.[5] However, he has spent the majority of his career as a box-to-box midfielder for club and country, where he has been regarded as one of the world's best players in his position"

I would argue that Yaya Toure covered a DM role as well but because he was at least near world-class at the time, he did a lot more as well.

That is why Pellegrini could get away with 4 out and out attacking players.

Navas, Silva, Agüero, Džeko,
swap in Sterling DeBruyne, Nasri Jovetic, Bony, Iheanacho

I think Delph and Milner were the only ones that offered something other than offence and their appearances there were limited.

That said he had zero losses by more than one goal the first year, a couple the year after and 5 in his last year. So he might not instil defensively solidity going forward.

Re: Summer Transfer window rumours/discussion thread.
I remember Rafa Benitez had Javier Mascherano, Xabi Alonso and Gerrard. Mascherano was always used by Rafa as his DM

Yaya Toure Played as a CM alongside Fernandinho who was the DM.

Manuel and Vexed wondered what would Rice role be if Mandragora would be signed, well he would still be our main defensive midfielder with Mandragora as a Centre midfiielder.

We lack that centre midfielder role imo, there can be 2 hardworkers in centre midfield with different duties and roles.

About that Serbian I was only answering grasshopper and I have no idea if that lad is good enough and if he is he would never replace Rice of course he would add depth.to the squad as I and many others have doubts over Sanchez

Like others have said what would Rice's role be ?
We would then have 3 attacking midfielders.
If Gomes had joined us Fornals would of not joined with the limited funds we had and certainly not Haller.
So let's chose 2 out of Gomes,Fornals and Haller. I'd still go with Fornals and Haller. Rice will be essential to the team.
I'm glad we have Haller over Maxi Gomex . He's more suited to PL, Maxi would of caused us problems wether it was due to the weather, language or physicallity of the play.
Gomes at Everton took 6 months to get going. Rice took far less. I'd rather have Rice ovedr Gomes.
Pellegirini has to get more out of Lanzini,Fornals,Wilshire and Anderson period or we won't be able to play the way he wants.

So how many more years of moaning about leaving the Boleyn ground for the LS will we have? Whether you like it or not, we have moved and nothing can change that now, so why not accept it and move on (no pun intended)?

If I were El Pel I would order Rice to be the defensive midfielder and if I could sign Mandragora I would order him to be the box to box midfielder with Fornals or Lanzini as the attacking midfielder.

Would be rock fucking solid

Any Old Iron

The worse thing about East Stand Pat is that he refers to everyone outside family and kids as "knuckle draggers". In the so called "bad old days" of hooliganism it was still only a minority who indulged in that - probably because they were bored shitless about their lot at the time. I always remember that most just went to support the team.

As Maggie said "There is no such thing as society, only single men, single women and families"

It wasn't an original quote she lifted that from General Franco and his cohorts in Spain. Not a lot of people know that.

Anyway, we still desperately need a DEFENSIVE MIDFIELDER

I think you'll find that is exactly what Rice is supposed to be doing. Someone should tell him.

Barty 4:03 Mon Aug 12
Re: Summer Transfer window rumours/discussion thread.
Rice should be playing alongside an hardworking, athletic, ball winning midfielder who has the energy to get up and down the pitch.

That should have been the main signing this summer.
A player who fits that bill I hear you ask, the Udinese midfielder Rolando Mandragora

The Boleyn ground was not, and never was a shit hole, and as a supposed West Ham fan you should be ashamed for describing it as such.

You're clearly the worst kind of snowflake football follower. I won't call you a fan because I can't imaging you getting fanatical about anything apart the state of the LS bogs.

Just a tip. You'd be a lot more at home with the soppy
wankers over at WHTID.
